Texas Is Taking Action Against Domestic Violence:

Resources, Research, and Data

Access to and effective use of resources, research and data
will help Texas prevent violence against women. Recommendations include: securing new resources and using existing ones collaboratively and creatively, evaluating and publicizing effective prevention activities in the state, setting clear outcome markers and assessing progress in reaching goals, conducting studies to fill information gaps, utilizing relevant evidence specific to Texas to implement appropriate policies and sharing and linking non-identifying data across systems.

Communities, Systems and Infrastructure

Communities and systems must change infrastructure and
practices to shift to a society that does not tolerate sexual assault, domestic violence, or stalking. The strategic plan emphasizes community-driven initiatives including collaborations with leaders, advocates, and nontraditional allies, facilitating social change organizing that leads to local sustainable action, supporting the development of innovative educational models and training based on the input of stakeholders and solid data.

Public Awareness

Multiple public awareness strategies designed with diverse
input and applied in many different settings using various means of communication will help Texans understand sexual assault, domestic violence and stalking as public health crises. The strategic plan recommends involving men in message design and implementation, using community-informed public awareness campaigns, carefully educating and screening clients in health care settings and promoting effective anti-bullying efforts.
