Dear Fellow Insurance Professional,

I entered the insurance industry some 26 years ago, immediately after my discharge from the United States Air Force.

I became an insurance agent for two main reasons – (1) to provide a good standard of living for my family and (2) to help other people.  I intended to help those who needed an income while they were sick or disabled.  I intended to help people provide for their families in the event of pre-mature death.

Today, in most family situations, two incomes are required to maintain the same standard of living as people had some years ago.  There are more and more women in the workplace, but there are men among us who don’t appreciate their partners’ efforts.

I, obviously, am talking about the epidemic of domestic violence which now plagues the United States and the world.  According to the U. S. Department of Justice, over 4 Million women suffer some form of domestic violence each year in the United States.  They even went further to say that “Every 9 Seconds A Woman Suffers From Domestic Violence”.

Domestic violence affects all of us, including the insurance industry.  The cost of healthcare for women who are abused is astronomical, which in turn, affects our health insurance premiums. Women who are disabled due to domestic violence find it almost impossible to find health insurance, disability insurance, or even life insurance.  The saddest fact of domestic violence is that some 1,300 women are murdered each year in the United States by their partner.

In establishing Life’s New Beginnings, our mission is to promote public awareness of domestic violence and how it affects people, businesses, and the economy.  Domestic violence affects all of us.

If you feel that domestic violence is truly a problem and you are ready to do whatever it takes to stop the violence, then we need your help.  Our major concern in our efforts to provide information is funding.  The cost of printing brochures, pamphlets, postcards, letterhead, bulletins, etc. can sometimes be overwhelming.  The cost of Public Service Advertising is even more overwhelming.  We travel to organizational meetings to promote public awareness of domestic violence, which is also very expensive. We also need billboards in every city announcing that domestic violence is a national concern.

We would like to make an agreement with you.  For a donation of at least $100, as a token of our appreciation, we will place a listing of your insurance agency on our web site and everyone in the world will know that you are supporting our efforts in trying to stop domestic violence.  We want to estabish a special section in our web site to show "Supporters To Ending The Violence", by category of business.  So, not only would you be assisting the over 4 Million women who need us, you would also be promoting your agency and your products.

From my own personal experience, I know that when a professional insurance agent sets his/her mind to do something, it gets done.  In supporting our efforts, you will be saying that you understand domestic violence is a problem and you want to help stop it.

No woman deserves to suffer the physical, sexual, and emotional abuse of domestic violence, period.
