Domestic Violence:

What Will It Take To Stop Domestic Violence?

(Page 8)

Domestic violence has a devastating physical, emotional and psychological affect on the domestic violence victims.  Oftentimes, domestic violence ends in murder.

So, What Will It Take To Stop Domestic Violence?

Laws Affecting Domestic Violence Must Be Changed And Enforced (Cont'd)

In doing our research, we tried to find a current Bill pending in the Tennessee House of Representatives or Senate addressing domestic violence and could not find one currently pending.  This certainly doesn't mean there isn't one, it just means that we couldn't find it.

We did, however, find an interesting Bill that was introduced by Senator Doug Jackson and as of February 2008 had passed the Senate Judiciary Committee.

This Bill calls for the creation of a registry for people convicted of aggravated cruelty toward animals, felony animal fighting or bestiality.  (According to the dictionary "bestiality" means -

"brutish or beastly character or behavior; sexual relations between a person and an animal; sodomy".

Senator Jackson says the legislation is needed because people convicted of such crimes are prone to commit other offenses, such as abusing children and women.

Do you feel that someone engaged in "cock fighting" is necessarily more prone to the physical, sexual, or emotional violence toward women and children?

Do you feel that there should be a registry for convicted domestic violence offenders?

Do you feel that Senator Jackson's main concern is cruelty to animals or domestic violence?

Do you feel that we should spend more time in making laws to protect our animals or our women and children?

Are there any Bills currently pending in your state's House or Senate addressing domestic violence?
